  1. Remove the fluid pan and the gasket (2). Refer to Automatic Transmission Fluid and Filter Replacement in this section.

  2. Object Number: 166721  Size: SH
  3. Remove the TV cable (2) from the transmission case (3).
  4. Remove the electrical connectors from the torque convertor (TCC) solenoid and the shift solenoid assembly.

  5. Object Number: 166373  Size: SH
  6. Remove the fifteen bolts that attach the valve body (1) to the transmission case.

  7. Object Number: 166379  Size: SH
  8. Lift the valve body slowly and disconnect the TV cable (3) and the TV cable cam (2). Remove the valve body from the transmission case.
  9. Remove the one bolt and the solenoid wiring harness from the transmission case.

  10. Object Number: 166396  Size: SH
  11. Cover the accumulators with a clean cloth.
  12. Apply low compressed air slowly to the fluid passages until the air pressure forces the following items out of the case bores:
  13. • The second brake accumulator
    • The direct clutch accumulator
    • The forward clutch accumulator
  14. Inspect the accumulator pistons for the following:
  15. • Cracks
    • Scarring
    • Damage
  16. Inspect the accumulator springs for the following:
  17. • Weakness
    • Cracks
    • Damage
  18. Inspect the piston seals for the following:
  19. • Cuts
    • Damage
  20. Inspect the accumulator case bores for the following:
  21. • Scars
    • Nicks
    • Pitting
