Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Wheel Removal in Tires and Wheels.

  3. Object Number: 174513  Size: SH
  4. Support the rear axle housing (2) with a floor jack (1).

  5. Object Number: 174520  Size: SH
  6. Remove the shock absorber lower mounting nut (2) and bolt (1).

  7. Object Number: 174531  Size: SH
  8. Remove the coil spring (1) by lowering the rear axle housing support jack enough to allow removal of the spring.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the coil spring (1) to the vehicle. Ensure that the coil spring seats properly at the rear axle and at the body.
  2. Raise the floor jack in order to compress the spring (1).

  3. Object Number: 174520  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the shock absorber lower mounting bolt (1) and the nut (2). The bolt head should face the body.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the shock absorber lower bolt and the nut to 85 N·m (63 lb ft).

  6. Remove the floor jack (1) from the axle housing (2).
  7. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Wheel Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  8. Lower the vehicle.
