Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  2. Object Number: 174513  Size: SH
  3. Support the rear axle housing (2) by using a floor jack (1) in order to prevent the rear axle housing from lowering.

  4. Object Number: 174516  Size: SH
  5. Remove the shock absorber locknut (1) and the upper retaining nut (2).

  6. Object Number: 174520  Size: SH
  7. Remove the shock absorber lower mounting nut (2) and the bolt (1).

  8. Object Number: 174511  Size: SH
  9. Remove the shock absorber (3) from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the shock absorber to the vehicle.

  2. Object Number: 174520  Size: SH
  3. Install the lower bolt (1) and the nut (2). Ensure that the bolt head faces the body.
  4. Finger tighten the bolt and the nut.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the shock absorber upper retaining nut (2) and the locknut (1).
  6. Tighten

        • Tighten the shock absorber upper retaining nut (2) to 29 N·m (21 lb ft).
        • Tighten the shock absorber locknut (1) to 29 N·m (21 lb ft).
        • Tighten the shock absorber lower bolt and nut to 85 N·m (63 lb ft).

  7. Remove the floor jack (1) from the axle housing (2).
  8. Lower the vehicle.
