Ride Complaints

Notice: Never attempt to heat, quench, or straighten any suspension part. Replace it with a new part, or damage to the vehicle may result.

If complaints of a hard ride are encountered, investigate the following items first:

    • Tire pressure
    • Trim height
    • Strut condition

Refer to Suspension General Diagnosis.

If the above conditions are correct, inspect the amount of friction in the rear suspension.

Excessive Friction Check

  1. Measure the distance from the floor to the center of the rear bumper.
  2. Use the assistance of another technician in order to complete the following steps:
  3. 2.1. Lift up on the rear bumper. Raise the vehicle as high as possible.
2.2. Slowly lower the bumper. Allow the vehicle to assume the normal trim height.
  4. Measure the distance from the floor to the center of the bumper. The difference between the measurements should be less than 12.7 mm (0.5 in).
  5. If the difference exceeds this limit, inspect the following components for damage or wear:

    • The suspension arms
    • The struts
    • The ball studs
