- Install the steering gear to the vehicle.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Secure the steering
gear with the 2 mounting bolts (1, 2) and the pilot bolt (3).
Tighten
• | Tighten the mounting bolts to 85 N·m (61.5 lb ft). |
• | Tighten the pilot bolt to 85 N·m (61.5 lb ft). |
• | Tighten the pitman arm sector shaft nut to 130 N·m
(95 lb ft). |
- Install the lower steering shaft (2) to
the steering gear (3).
Align the shaft flats at the coupling.
- Secure the lower steering shaft with the pinch bolt.
- Install the pitman arm to the center link with the castle nut.
Tighten
Tighten the center-link-to-pitman arm castle nut to 55 N·m
(40 lb ft).
- Install the cotter pin to the center link.
Bend the end of the pin after installation.
