Removal Procedure
- Raise and suitably support the hood.
- Remove the 2 retaining
bolts which secure the hood latch (3).
- Remove the hood latch release cable (2) from the hood latch (3).
- Attach a piece of mechanic's wire to the hood latch release cable (2)
in order to aid in the removal and the installation of the release cable.
- Unclip the hood latch release cable (2) from the hold down
clips.
- Open the instrument panel
compartment (3). Push on the top edges of the instrument panel compartment (3)
so that the compartment (3) drops down and rests on the hinges.
- Remove the 2 screws and the hood latch release lever from
the support member.
- Pull the hood latch release cable (2) through the body.
- Remove the hood latch release cable (2) from the vehicle
by pulling the cable from inside the passenger compartment.
Important: The mechanic's wire should remain strung through the body in order to
ease the installation of the hood latch release cable (2).
- Remove the mechanic's wire from the release cable.
Installation Procedure
- Attach the mechanic's wire to the hood latch release cable.
- Install the hood latch release lever to the support member. Secure
the lever with the 2 screws.
- Guide the hood latch release cable through the body with the mechanic's
wire.
- Remove the mechanic's wire from the hood latch release cable.
- Push in the top edges
of the instrument panel compartment (3).
- Close the compartment.
- Install the hood latch
release cable (2) in order to the hold down clips.
- Clip the hood latch release cable (2) into place.
- Connect the hood latch release cable (2) to the hood latch (3).
- Install the hood latch (3) to the vehicle. Secure the latch
with the 2 retaining bolts. Do not fully tighten the bolts.
- Adjust the hood latch (3) in order to ensure that the striker
shaft lines up with the center groove of the hood latch.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Adjust the hood latch (3) in order to ensure that the hood is
flush with the front fender. Refer to
Body Front End Adjustment Specifications
.
Tighten
Tighten the hood latch retaining bolts to 7 N·m (5 lb ft)
- Lower the hood.
