Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Wheel Removal in Tires and Wheels.

  3. Object Number: 174539  Size: SH
  4. Remove the nut and the bolt that attach the parking brake cable hanger (2) to the trailing arm (1).
  5. Remove the parking brake cable hanger (2) from the trailing arm (1).

  6. Object Number: 174513  Size: SH
  7. Use a floor jack (1) in order to support the rear axle housing (2).

  8. Object Number: 174559  Size: SH
  9. Remove the following components from the trailing arm:
  10. • The trailing arm rear nut (2)
    • The trailing arm rear bolt (3)
    • The trailing arm rear washer
  11. Remove the following components from the trailing arm:
  12. • The trailing arm front nut (2)
    • The trailing arm front bolt (3)
    • The trailing arm front washer
  13. Remove the trailing arm (1) from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. If both trailing arms were removed, inspect the rods in order to distinguish between the right rod and the left rod prior to installation.

  2. Object Number: 174559  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the trailing arm (1) to the vehicle body and rear axle housing.
  4. Secure the trailing arm with the following components:

    • The front and rear nuts (2)
    • The front and rear bolts (3)
    • The front and rear washers

    Tighten
    Tighten the trailing arm front and rear nuts and bolts to 90 N·m (66 lb ft).

  5. Remove the floor jack (1) from the rear axle housing (2).

  6. Object Number: 174539  Size: SH
  7. Install the parking brake cable hanger (2) to the trailing arm (1).
  8. Secure the hanger with a nut and a bolt.

    Tighten
    Tighten the parking brake cable nut and bolt to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  9. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Wheel Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  10. Lower the vehicle.
