FRT STRUT SHIELD POP/RUB NOISE INSTALL 1987 STRUT SHIELD

1985-86 GRAND AM MODELS 1982-86 SUNBIRD MODELS

A pop, rub, or racheting noise may be experienced on some Grand Am or Sunbird models. This condition may be caused by the front strut shield convolutes contacting the strut jounce plate during suspension movement. Refer to the Illustration.

The 1987 strut shield is more pliable and may be installed on prior year models to repair this condition. The new shield is available for 1985-87 Grand Am and 1982-87 Sunbird models as a bumper and shield assembly, part number 22533136.

Notice: Strut shield noise should not be mistaken for a louder "squawk" noise that may occur from the front stabilizer bar bushings. Refer to Dealer Service Bulletin 86-3-10.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
