WIND WHISTLE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS HEADLAMP DOOR/FRONT END PANEL

1986-87 SUNBIRD (WITH HEADLAMP DOORS)

A whistle noise may occur at highway speeds with the headlamp doors closed (lights off).

Due to production variations, the gap between the rear edge of the headlamp door and the front end panel may cause a whistle when traveling at highway speeds with the headlamp doors closed (lights off).

This condition may be corrected by installing a foam strip, part number 22537740, on the front end panel as shown.

1. Remove the headlamp door.

2. Clean the underside of the front end panel where the foam is to be placed.

3. Install the foam, part number 22537740, observing the dimensions in the illustration, pressing firmly to secure foam strip.

4. Reinstall the headlamp door and adjust to obtain 2 to 2.5 mm gap between the front end panel and the headlamp door.

5. Correct opposite headlamp door gap in the same way.

The time required is .3 hr. per side. Use labor operation B1400 and B1401.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
