COMPOSITE HEADLAMP CRACKED BY THERMAL SHOCK-REPLACE

Models Affected: 1988-90 SUNBIRD

This bulletin is to advise of the release of tempered headlamp lens and housing for use in correcting the above condition. The condition can occur when the head lamps are left on for an extended period without the cooling effect of air flow from the normal operation of the car. This may happen at car washes where the lights are turned on before the car enters the water spray. It is particularly true at fleet operations where the cars are serviced and the lights checked for proper operation and then left on as the car enters the clean up area.

The new part numbers are as follows:

16515319 Left Hand Headlamp Lens and Housing Assembly 16515320 Right Hand Headlamp Lens and Housing Assembly

Parts are currently available from GMSPO.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
