DELAYED AND/OR INSUFFICIENT INTERIOR COOLING AT IDLE
Please discard bulletin 88-1-4 dated 11/87. This bulletin is being revised to provide VIN breakpoints and correct service PROM part numbers for vehicles equipped with manual transaxles as well as VIN breakpoints and correct service PROM part numbers for vehicles equipped with automatic transaxles.
Some early-built 1988 Sunbird vehicles may exhibit delayed and/or insufficient cooling with the air conditioning mode selected. This is due to the engine cooling fan not operating in the A/C mode when the outside air temperature is below 85 deg F.
This condition can be addressed by installing the following service PROMS:
Automatic Manual Transaxle Transaxle PROM # PROM # --------- --------- Sunbird 16086125 16089817
Vehicles are currently being produced with corrected PROMS, beginning with the following VIN breakpoints: Automatic Manual TRANSAXLE TRANSAXLE VIN Breakpoint VIN Breakpoints -------------- ---------------- Sunbird J7500363 J7525993
Use applicable labor time and operation number.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
