HEADLAMP DOOR ACTUATOR MOTOR SCREWS BROKEN
Headlamp doors may become inoperative due to broken actuator motor cover screws (The mechanical override continues to function.) The screws break because of an embrittlement of the zinc plated screws. Actuator screws with black phosphate coating are currently being used in production and in CANSPO service stock.
Whenever this condition is encountered, the actuator motor assembly should be replaced. This is because of the possibility of moisture and dirt contamination of the motor assembly when screw clamping is lost.
Cars built after VIN J7567455 have the updated actuator motors installed with the phosphate coated screws. The date code for actuator motors using the new screws is 0638. The service part numbers for the actuators motors are L.H. 16507957 and R.H. 16507958. Parts are currently available through CANSPO. Replace only the inoperative actuator motor using service manual procedures in Section 8B.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
