HEADLAMP DOOR ACTUATOR ARM CLIP LOST OR BROKEN

SUBJECT: HEADLAMP DOOR ACTUATOR ARM CLIP - LOST OR BROKEN - NEW STYLE CLIP

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1989 BUICK AND PONTIAC J CARS

A new headlamp door actuator arm clip has been released to improve the retention of the link to the headlamp door. The original clip was "C" shaped and could work or fall off the pivot pin causing the headlamp door to become inoperative. The door can continue to be operated manually. The new clip has a positive lock to prevent it from working off due to vibration or friction.

It is important that when installing a headlamp door service package that it be checked for the new design clip. See illustration for old and new style clip.

The new clip part number is 16513899 and should be used whenever the old style is removed during servicing or replacing headlamp door components.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
