INTERMITTENT HORN BLOWINGWHEN CAR IS COLD

Subject: INTERMITTENT HORN BLOWING WHEN CAR IS COLD (REPLACE CONTACT ASSEMBLY/VINYL PAD) Models Affected: 1989-93 SUNBIRD AND 1992-93 GRAND AM MODELS

CONDITION

Some owners of 1989-93 Sunbird vehicles and 1992-93 Grand Am vehicles may experience intermittent horn blowing when car is cold.

CAUSE:

This condition may be caused by excessive shrinkage of the contact assembly components when cold. This forces the horn pad contact plates together which activates the horn.

CORRECTION:

Install new parts according to explanation below:

On 1992 Grand Am models without leather steering wheel and 1989-93 Sunbird the vinyl pads cannot be assembled with redesigned contact assemblies. Therefore, replace with P/N 16753782 (Contact assembly) and PIN 16753781 (Vinyl pad) for these models.

On 1993 Grand Am models, only replacement of the contact assembly is necessary.

Parts are expected to be available on April 26, 1993.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
