INFORMATION ON ICAM USAGE DUE TO SHORTAGE OF '93 MODULES

SUBJECT: INFORMATION ON 1994 ICAM USAGE DUE TO SHORTAGE OF 1993 MODULES DURING PRODUCTION

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1993 "J" MODEL

APPLICATION:

----------- 1993 Chevrolet Cavalier with VIN breakpoints: 1G1JC1148P7312063 to 1G1JC1442P7315388

1993 Pontiac Sunbird with VIN breakpoints: 1G2JC14H9P7583630 to 1G2JC51HXP7584944

A new 1994 "J" integrated control and alarm module (ICAM) has been installed in some 1993 "J" vehicles as indicated by the above VIN numbers. The new module may cause some concern with customers who perceive their vehicle to be functioning differently than an earlier built 1993 "J" car, and also with service technicians diagnosing system concerns. To identify a vehicle built with the 1994 "J" ICAM versus the 1993 "J" ICAM:

o Key in ignition, ignition switch to "Run"

o Close all doors (so interior lights are off)

o Ignition switch to "Off", remove key.

1994 ICAM - interior lights on for 15 seconds after key out. 1993 ICAM - interior lights will remain off.

Three vehicle features were updated with the 1994 "J" ICAMS:

1. Illuminated exit: the interior lights will illuminate for up to 15 seconds after the ignition is turned off and the key is removed from the ignition switch.

2. Relock: the system will relock all doors during the ignition cycle whenever a front door is opened and closed AND the vehicle is out of park or neutral (auto transmission) or travelling above 13KM/HR (8 mph) (manual transmission).

Note 1: Pontiac "J" cars not in park or neutral (auto transmission) or travelling above 13KM/HR (8 mph) (manual transmission) will relock when the interior light switch is turned on.

Note 2: Chevrolet sedans will not relock with rear doors opening and closing.

The above notes do not apply to 1994 vehicles.

3. Safety belt telltale: the safety belt warning telltale will stay on for 20 seconds and then flash for at least 45 seconds after ignition on. Currently, the 1993 seatbelt telltale does not flash.

If a customer has a concern with any or all of the above features, replace the 1994 "J" ICAM with a 1993 "J" ICAM, P/N 22576829.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
