Shift Control Assembly
Removal Procedure
- Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to
Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing
any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to
the vehicle or its components.
in General Information.
- Remove the following parts from the shift control:
- Remove the shift cables from the pin on the shift control.
- Remove the spring clip holding the cables to the shift control.
- Remove the shift control.
Installation Procedure
- Install the shift control.
- Install the shift control nuts.
Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the shift cables to the pin on the shift control.
- Install the spring clip that holds the cables to the shift control.
- Install the following parts on the shift control assembly:
- Connect the negative battery cable.

- Remove the shift cables.
- Remove the shift control box bolts.
- Remove the shift control box.
- Disassemble the shift control box.
- Assemble the shift control box using the following procedure:
| Important: Align the serrations on the stopper cam and internal lever.

6.1. | Assemble the stopper cam and the internal lever. |
6.2. | Install the stopper cam and internal lever to the shift lever
assembly. |
- Inspect the alignment of the stopper cam with the center on the
internal lever.
- Reverse the inhibitor mechanism for proper operation.
- Install the new roll pin to the internal lever.
Installation Procedure
- Install the shift control box.
- Install the shift control box bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

- Install the shift cables.
- Inspect for proper shifting.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
