Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 143272 Size: SH
  1. Relieve fuel system pressure, refer to Fuel Pressure Relief Procedure .
  2. Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  3. Remove the negative battery cable.
  4. Remove the air cleaner outlet resonator. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Resonator Replacement .
  5. Remove the fuel rail bracket (1).
  6. Remove the vacuum hose from the fuel pressure regulator.
  7. Remove the fuel return pipe from the fuel pressure regulator.

  8. Object Number: 206894 Size: SH
  9. Remove the pressure regulator bracket attaching screw (3).
  10. Important: If the fuel pressure regulator is to be reinstalled, inspect filter screen for contamination. If contaminated, remove and discard.

  11. Remove the pressure regulator assembly (2) and O-ring (4) (discard O-ring).

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 206894 Size: SH
  1. Lubricate new pressure regulator O-ring (4) with clean engine oil, then install on pressure regulator (2).
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the pressure regulator bracket attaching screw (3) coated with appropriate thread-locking material. Refer to Thread Locking Material.
  4. Tighten
Tighten the pressure regulator bracket attaching screw to 3.5 N·m (31 lb in).

  5. Install the vacuum hose to the fuel pressure regulator.
  6. Install the fuel return pipe to the fuel pressure regulator.
  7. Tighten
Tighten the fuel return pipe attaching nut to 30 N·m(22 ft lb).

    Object Number: 143272 Size: SH
  8. Install the fuel rail bracket (1).
  9. Tighten

    1. Tighten the fuel rail bracket nut (4) to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
    2. Tighten the fuel rail bracket nut (3) to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
    3. Tighten the fuel rail bracket bolt (2) to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
  10. Install the air cleaner outlet resonator. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Resonator Replacement .
  11. Connect the negative battery cable.
  12. Inspect for leaks through the following steps:
  13. • Turn the ignition switch to the ON position for 2 seconds.
    • Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position for 10 seconds.
    • Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
    • Check for fuel leaks.
