Do all of the radio functions operate normally?

  1. Disconnect the radio connector C2.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  3. Turn the radio ON.
  4. Use the J 39200 in order to measure the voltage between the radio connector C2 terminal 14 and ground. While measuring, operate each steering wheel control button.
  5. Compare each voltage with the steering wheel controls resistance/voltage chart.

Does the voltage measure within the specified range?

0-5 V

Go to Step 15

  1. Disconnect the radio connector C2.
  2. Turn on the radio.

Do all of the radio functions operate normally?

Measure the voltage on CKT 1011 between the radio connector C2 terminal 14 and ground.

Does the measured voltage equal the specified value?

0 V

Go to Step 10

  1. Disable the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Remove and disconnect the inflator module from the steering wheel. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in Supplemental Inflatable Restraint.
  2. Disconnect the steering wheel control switches connector. Refer to Steering Wheel Radio Controls.
  3. Measure the voltage in CKT 1011 between the radio harness connector C2 terminal 14 and ground.

Does the measured voltage equal the specified value?

0 V

Go to Step 8

Repair the short to B+ in CKT 1011 between the radio harness connector C2 terminal 14 and the SIR coil assembly connector C. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you complete the repair?

  1. Disconnect the steering wheel control switches connector.
  2. Measure the voltage in CKT 1011 between the SIR coil assembly connector terminal C and ground.

Does the measured voltage equal the specified value?

0 V

Measure the voltage in CKT 1011 between the steering wheel controls connector terminal C and ground.

Does the measured voltage equal the specified value?

0 V

Measure the resistance on CKT 1011 between the radio connector C2 terminal 14 and ground.

Repair the short to ground in CKT 1011 between the radio connector C2 terminal 14 and the SIR coil assembly connector terminal C. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Measure the resistance on CKT 1011 between the SIR coil assembly connector terminal C and ground.

Test CKT 1011 for a faulty connection at the radio connector C2 terminal 14.

Did you find a faulty connection?

Repair the faulty connection in CKT 1011 at the radio connector C2 terminal 14. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Disable the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Remove and disconnect the inflator module from the steering wheel.
  2. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in Supplemental Inflatable Restraint.

  3. Disconnect the steering wheel control switches connector.
  4. Measure the resistance between the steering wheel switches connector terminal A and terminal C. While measuring, operate each steering wheel control button.
  5. Compare each resistance with the steering wheel controls resistance/voltage chart. Refer to Steering Wheel Control System Check .

Is the voltage equal to the value specified by the chart?

Measure the voltage in CKT 43 between the steering wheel controls connector terminal A and ground. Terminal A is on the steering wheel control side.

Does the measured voltage equal the specified value?

0 V

Measure the voltage in CKT 43 between the steering wheel controls connector terminal A and ground.

Does the voltage equal the specified value?

B+

System OK

  1. Disconnect the steering wheel control switches connector.
  2. Measure the voltage in CKT 43 between the SIR coil assembly harness connector terminal A and ground.

Does the voltage equal the specified value?

B+

Backprobe and measure the voltage in CKT 43 between the inline fuse A connector A and ground.

Does the voltage equal the specified value?

Repair the open circuit condition in CKT 43 between the SIR coil assembly connector terminal A and the inline fuse A terminal A. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Disconnect the radio connector C2. Refer to Steering Wheel Radio Controls.
  2. Measure the voltage in CKT 43 between the inline fuse A connector terminal B and ground.

Does the voltage equal the specified value?

Repair the open circuit condition in CKT 43 between the inline fuse A connector terminal B and the fuse block. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
