Did you perform the Instrument Panel Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Disconnect the following connectors:
  2. • The instrument panel (IPC) cluster connector
    • The radio connector
    • The multi-function alarm module connector C1
    • The cruise control module connector
    • The powertrain control module (PCM) connector C3
  3. Measure the voltage in CKT 817 between the IPC connector terminal B3 (terminal B2 for Pontiac) and ground.

Does the voltage equal the specified value?

0 V

Go to Step 3

Go to Step 4

Measure the resistance between the IPC connector terminal B3 (terminal B2 for Pontiac) and ground.

Is the resistance infinite?

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 6

Repair a short to B+ between the following components:

    • The IPC connector terminal B3 (terminal B2 for Pontiac)
    • The cruise control module connector terminal K
    • The radio connector terminal 16
    • The multi-function alarm module connector C1 terminal A
    • The PCM connector C2 terminal 16

Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Measure the resistance between the IPC connector terminal B3 (terminal B2 for Pontiac) and the PCM connector C2 terminal 16.

Is the resistance within the specified range?

0-2 ohms

Go to Step 7

Go to Step 8

Repair a short to ground between the following components:

    • The IPC connector terminal B3 (terminal B2 for Pontiac)
    • The cruise control module connector terminal K
    • The radio connector terminal 16
    • The multi-function alarm module connector C1 terminal A
    • The PCM connector C2 terminal 16

Replace the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .

Repair an open between the IPC connector terminal B3 (terminal B2 for Pontiac) and the PCM connector C2 terminal 16. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
