- Inspect the oil pan magnet (38) for steel
particles. Excessive amounts of steel shavings indicate internal damage to
the transmission.
- Use a screwdriver or side cutters in order to open the oil filter
assembly (33). Cut or pry the metal crimping away from the top of the black
filter and pull the filter apart.
- Inspect the filter (33) for excessive amounts of the following:
• | Fiber material from the clutch plate assembly, which indicates
clutch distress |
• | Bronze slivers, which indicates bushing wear |
• | Steel particles, which indicates internal damage to the transmission |
