Cooling System

Tools Required

    • J 24460-01 Universal Cooling System and Cap Pressure Tester
    • J 42401-04 Cooling System Tester Adapter
    • J 42401-02 Cooling System Tester Adapter

    Notice: Pressure above 139 kPa (20psi) should not be used when pressure testing the cooling system. Pressures over 138 kPa (20) psi will damage the radiator.

  1. Inspect the connections for leaks.
  2. Repair the connections as required.
  3. Remove the surge tank cap.

  4. Object Number: 331764  Size: SH
  5. Attach the J 42401-02 ,theJ 42401-04 and the J 24460-01 to the surge tank.
  6. Follow the instructions supplied with the J 24460-01 .

  7. Build up the pressure to no more than 138 kpa (20 psi).
  8. The system should hold the pressure for about two minutes.
  9. • If a measurable amount of pressure drops in less than two minutes, check for a leak.
    • Mark the leaking area. Remove and replace the radiator if necessary. Refer to Radiator Replacement .

Cooling System Filler Cap

Tools Required

    • J 24460-01 Universal Cooling System and Cap Pressure Tester
    • J 24460-92 Cooling System Tester Adapter
    • J 42401-04 Cooling System Tester Adapter
  1. Inspect the hose connections for leaks.
  2. Inspect the surge tank cap. Use the J 24460-01 and the J 42401-04 in order to check the cap for rated pressure. Replace the surge tank cap if the cap will not hold pressure.
  3. Inspect for damage or debris on the gasket in the cap and the inner sealing surface of the filler neck.
  4. Ensure that the correct cap is being used.
