Starter Replacement 2.4L

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 97628  Size: SH
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  2. Remove the air inlet duct to the throttle body.
  3. Remove the top starter bolt.
  4. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  5. Remove the lower starter bolt.
  6. Position the engine wiring harness aside.
  7. Position the starter for access to the solenoid wiring.
  8. Remove the electrical wiring.
  9. Remove the starter.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the electrical wiring.
  2. Position the starter to the engine.
  3. Install the lower starter bolt.
  4. Reposition the engine wiring harness.
  5. Lower the vehicle.
  6. Install the top starter bolt.
  7. Install the air inlet duct to the throttle body.
  8. Install the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .

Starter Replacement 2.2L

Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  2. Remove wiring harness bracket nut from starter bolt.
  3. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  5. Remove flywheel inspection shield.

  6. Object Number: 594776  Size: SH
  7. Remove the electrical connections from starter.
  8. Remove the starter bolts and starter.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 594776  Size: SH
  1. Position the starter to the engine.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the starter bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  5. Install the electrical connections to starter.

  7. Install flywheel inspection shield.
  8. Lower the vehicle.
  9. Install wiring harness bracket nut to starter bolt.
  10. Install the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
