Instrument Panel Carrier Replacement Pontiac

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 288325  Size: SH
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  2. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  3. With a flat-bladed tool remove the Instrument panel (IP) defroster grille.
  4. Remove the IP outer trim cover screws.
  5. Remove the outer trim covers from the IP carrier.
  6. Remove the screws for the HVAC control. Leave the harnesses connected to the HVAC control and position aside. Refer to Heater and Air Conditioning Control Replacement in HVAC Systems -- Manual
  7. Remove the radio screws.
  8. Disconnect the electrical connectors and coaxial cable from the radio.
  9. Remove the radio from the IP carrier.
  10. Remove the right IP trim panel screws.
  11. Remove the right IP trim panel from the IP carrier (3).
  12. Remove the IP trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Trim Pad Replacement .
  13. Remove the IP SIR module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement in SIR.
  14. Remove the air distribution ducts screws.
  15. Remove the air distribution duct.
  16. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  17. Remove the tilt lever. Refer to Tilt Lever Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column.
  18. Remove the washer lever. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column.
  19. Remove the screws (4) from the IP carrier (3).
  20. Remove the IP carrier (3) from the lower tie bar (2).
  21. Remove the IP carrier (3) from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 288325  Size: SH
  1. Place the IP carrier (3) into the vehicle.
  2. Install the IP carrier (3) to the tie bar (2).
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the screws (4) to the IP carrier (3).
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 3 N·m (27 lb in).

  6. Install the tilt lever. Refer to Tilt Lever Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column.
  7. Install the washer switch. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column.
  8. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  9. Install the air distribution ducts.
  10. Install the air distribution screws.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  12. Install the right IP trim panel to the IP carrier (3).
  13. Install the right IP trim panel screws.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 3 N·m (27 lb in).

  15. Connect the electrical connectors and the antenna coaxial cable to the radio.
  16. Install the radio to the IP carrier.
  17. Install the radio screws.
  18. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 3 N·m (27 lb in).

  19. Install the HVAC control. Refer to Heater and Air Conditioning Control Replacement in HVAC Systems with A/C - Manual.
  20. Install the IP SIR module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement in SIR.
  21. Install the IP outer trim covers.
  22. Install the IP outer trim cover screws.
  23. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  24. Install the IP defroster grille to the IP trim pad.
  25. Press into place until fully seated.

  26. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
  27. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.

Instrument Panel Carrier Replacement Chevrolet

Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  2. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  3. Remove the instrument panel (IP) trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Trim Pad Replacement .
  4. Remove the IP mounted SIR module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement in SIR.
  5. Remove the IP cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .
  6. Remove the screws for the HVAC control. Leave the harness connected to the HVAC control and position aside. Refer to Heater and Air Conditioning Control Replacement in HVAC Systems -- Manual.
  7. Remove the screws for the radio.
  8. Disconnect the electrical connector and coaxial cable from the radio.
  9. Remove the radio from the IP carrier.
  10. Remove the screws for the air distribution duct.
  11. Remove the air distribution ducts.
  12. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  13. Remove the tilt lever. Refer to Tilt Lever Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column.
  14. Remove the washer switch. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column.
  15. Remove the screws (2) from the IP carrier (3).
  16. Remove the nuts (4) from the IP carrier (3).
  17. Remove the IP carrier (3) from the lower tie bar (1).
  18. Remove the IP carrier (3) from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Place the IP carrier (3) into the vehicle.
  2. Install the IP carrier (3) to the lower tie bar (1).
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application.   4. Install the screws (2) to IP carrier (3).
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 3 N·m (27 lb in).

  6. Install the nuts (4) to the IP carrier (3).
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 5 N·m (44 lb in).

  8. Install the washer switch. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column.
  9. Install the tilt lever. Refer to Tilt Lever Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column.
  10. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  11. Install the air distribution duct.
  12. Install the screws for the air distribution duct.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the screw to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  14. Connect the electrical connector and coaxial cable to the radio.
  15. Install the radio.
  16. Install the screws for the radio.
  17. Tighten
    Tighten the screw to 3 N·m (27 lb in).

  18. Install the HVAC control. Refer to Heater and Air Conditioning Control Replacement in HVAC Systems -- Manual.
  19. Install the IP cluster trim plate. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .
  20. Install the IP SIR module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement in SIR.
  21. Install the IP trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Trim Pad Replacement .
  22. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
  23. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
