Removal Procedure

Caution: Keep fingers away from rear brake shoe springs to prevent fingers from being pinched between spring and shoe web or spring and backing plate.

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Remove the brake drum. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement .

  4. Object Number: 171479  Size: SH

    Notice: Do not over stretch the adjuster spring. Damage can occur if the spring is over stretched.

  5. Remove the adjuster spring (4).
  6. Remove the adjuster assembly (1, 2, 3).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 171479  Size: SH
  1. Install the adjuster assembly (1, 2, 3).
  2. Notice: Do not over stretch the adjuster spring. Damage can occur if the spring is over stretched.

  3. Install the adjuster spring (4).
  4. Adjust the rear drum brakes. Refer to Drum Brake Adjustment .
  5. Install the brake drum. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement .
  6. Adjust the park brake system. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment in Park Brake.
  7. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  8. Lower the vehicle.
