Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Remove the tie rod from the steering knuckle. Refer to Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End Replacement in Power Steering System.
  4. If the vehicle is equipped with ABS, disconnect the ABS electrical connector.
  5. Remove the hub and bearing assembly. Refer to Front Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement .

  6. Object Number: 491774  Size: SH
  7. Remove the bolts (3) and nuts (6) that attach the steering knuckle (4) to the strut (2).
  8. Remove the lower ball joint from the steering knuckle.
  9. Remove the steering knuckle (4) from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 491774  Size: SH
  1. Install the steering knuckle (4) to the vehicle.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  3. Connect the lower ball joint to the steering knuckle.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the ball joint nut to 59 N·m (43 lb ft).

  5. Install the bolts (3) and the nuts (6) attaching the steering knuckle (4) to the strut (2).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts (6) to 180 N·m (133 lb ft).

  7. Install the hub and bearing assembly. Refer to Front Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement .
  8. If the vehicle is equipped with ABS, connect the ABS electrical connector.
  9. Install the tie rod to the steering knuckle. Refer to Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End Replacement in Power Steering System.
  10. Install the tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  11. Inspect the front wheel alignment. Refer to Wheel Alignment Measurement in Wheel Alignment.
