Accumulator Tube Replacement LD9

Tools Required

J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Remove the accumulator tube fitting nut from the accumulator.
  3. Use a back-up wrench on the evaporator core fitting.

  4. Remove the accumulator tube fitting nut from the evaporator core.
  5. Remove the accumulator tube.
  6. Remove and discard the O-rings.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install new O-rings on both ends of the accumulator tube. Refer to O-Ring Replacement .
  2. Install the accumulator tube to the accumulator and the evaporator core.

  3. Object Number: 302602  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the accumulator tube fitting nuts.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 35 N·m (26 lb ft).

  6. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  7. Leak test the fittings of the component using the J 39400-A .

Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Reposition the cruise control module out of the way, if equipped.
  3. Remove the 2 nuts holding the bracket for the PCM Module. Position the bracket and module out of the way.
  4. Remove the accumulator tube fitting nut from the accumulator.
  5. Use a back-up wrench on the evaporator core fitting.

  6. Remove the accumulator tube fitting nut from the evaporator core.
  7. Remove the accumulator tube.
  8. Remove and discard the O-rings.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install new O-rings on both ends of the accumulator tube. Refer to O-Ring Replacement .
  2. Install the accumulator tube to the accumulator and the evaporator core.

  3. Object Number: 302602  Size: SH

  4. Install the accumulator tube fitting nuts.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 35 N·m (26 lb ft).

  6. Reposition the cruise control module.
  7. Position the bracket holding the PCM module on to the shock tower.
  8. Install the bracket nuts holding the PCM module on to the shock tower.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  10. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  11. Leak test the fittings of the component using the J 39400-A .
