Press down the brake pedal.

Do all of the stop lamps illuminate?

Is only one lamp inoperative?

Go to Step 4

  1. Disconnect the inoperative stop lamp.
  2. Probe the stop lamp supply voltage circuit of the inoperative lamp with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.
  3. Press down the brake pedal.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 16

Are all of the stop lamps, including the high mounted stop lamps, inoperative?

  1. Disconnect the brake switch.
  2. Probe the battery positive voltage circuit of the brake switch with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 7

Connect a 20 amp fused jumper wire between the battery positive voltage circuit of the brake switch and the stop lamp supply voltage circuit.

Do the stop lamps illuminate?

Are the high mounted stop lamps inoperative?

Test the stop lamp supply voltage circuit of the high mounted stop lamps for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the ground circuit of the high mounted stop lamps for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test for an open or high resistance in the stop lamp supply voltage circuit between splice 206 and the turn/hazard-headlamp switch assembly. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
