Subject: | Service VME - Right Front Speaker Rattle - noise buzz |
Models: | . |
When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.
If you encounter a rattle or buzz from the right front speaker on a 2000 through 2004 J car, Sunfire or Cavalier, it may be possible that this noise is being generated by the door trim panel upper extension covering the exterior mirror mount, commonly known as the shark fin. Prior to replacing the speaker for the rattle concern, verify that the shark fin is not the concern by applying pressure to the shark fin at the forward lower corner. If the rattle diminishes, repair the concern by removing the trim panel (refer to SI document number 1043347) and add a foam block to the forward lower corner to dampen the low frequency vibrations. Reinstall the trim panel and tighten the screw to 1.3N·m(12 lb in).
Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance. This diagnostic approach was developed for the vehicle with the VIN you entered and should not be automatically be used for other vehicles with similar symptoms.
