When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.
Whine noise from front of the engine
First, the water pump is not the source of the noise. The noise is a 23rd order cam drive noise which is a normal operating characteristic. It will vary some due to variations in oil, temperature and engine loads, but is present on all L61 engines. Compare the noise to other 2.2L L61 engines. If the noise is similar in other like vehicles, do not attempt repairs.
Second, it was noticed that attempts to repair the noise by replacing the water pump was causing engine damage if proper repair procedure was not followed. Water pump holding tool J 43651 is required to hold the water pump sprocket in place while the water pump is being replaced.
Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
