Subject: | Check Engine Light May Flash Momentarily After Key is Turned Off |
Models: | 2000-2002 Chevrolet Cavalier |
2000-2002 Pontiac Sunfire |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in the PI.
The CEL (check engine light) may intermittently flash after the engine has been running and the key is turned to the off position. This is a result of the PCM powering down, which causes the CEL driver to ground the circuit. The length of time that the CEL flashes for may vary depending on electrical load at key off, battery charge, component tolerance, etc. There should not be any DTCs stored as a result of this condition.
This is a normal condition and does not affect the durability or reliability of the vehicle. Do not attempt any repairs to alter this condition.
Note: Replacing the IPC or PCM will not eliminate this condition.
Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
