Subject: | Information on Transferring Original Fuel Rail to Goodwrench Engine |
Models: | 2002-2005 Chevrolet Cavalier |
2002-2005 Pontiac Sunfire |
with 2.2L Engine (VIN F - RPO L61) |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
When installing a Goodwrench replacement engine, it may be necessary to install the original fuel rail on the replacement engine. Upon inspection, it may be noted that the fuel injector ports in the head are larger than the fuel injector tips.
If this occurs, inspect the fuel injector ports of the original engine to see if insulator cups are present (as shown below)
If the original engine has insulator cups but the replacement engine does not, install new insulator cups to ensure proper fuel injector fit. To obtain these insulator cups, it will be necessary to order a fuel injector seal kit as listed in the GMSPO parts catalog. The fuel injector seal kit will include new fuel injector seals, retainers, and insulator cups.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
