The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern:
On rare occasions, no power steering assist may be experienced shortly after replacing the engine or intake camshaft. This may be the result of a loose power steering pump drive sleeve as shown below. If the sleeve is loose inside of the related camshaft
bore, it will not drive the power steering pump, resulting in no power steering assist.
Recommendation/Instructions:
If this concern occurs, replace the intake camshaft using the part number listed in the parts catalog. To prevent a reoccurrence, use a MIG welder to add a small spot weld between the outer edge of the pump drive sleeve and the inner edge of the related
camshaft bore.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
