Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Remove the brake drum. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement .

  4. Object Number: 891442  Size: SH
  5. Remove the brake shoes. Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement .
  6. Remove the universal spring (1) from the brake backing plate.

  7. Object Number: 890720  Size: SH
  8. Release the rear park brake cable end fitting (1) from the drum brake backing plate.

  9. Object Number: 142296  Size: SH
  10. Remove the wheel cylinder (3). Refer to Wheel Cylinder Replacement .
  11. Remove the wheel bearing/hub assembly. Refer to Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement in Rear Suspension.
  12. Remove the brake backing plate.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 142296  Size: SH
  1. Install the brake backing plate.
  2. Install the wheel bearing/hub assembly. Refer to Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement in Rear Suspension.
  3. Install the wheel cylinder (3). Refer to Wheel Cylinder Replacement .

  4. Object Number: 890720  Size: SH
  5. Secure the rear park brake cable end fitting to the brake backing plate. Attempt to pull the park brake cable free of the backing plate, to ensure that the retaining tabs (1) on the fitting are properly secured.

  6. Object Number: 891442  Size: SH
  7. Install the universal spring (1) to the backing plate.
  8. Install the brake shoes. Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement .
  9. Adjust the drum brakes. Refer to Drum Brake Adjustment .
  10. Install the brake drum. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement .
  11. Bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding in Hydraulic Brakes.
  12. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  13. Lower the vehicle.
