Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement 2.2L (L61)

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  2. Object Number: 639559  Size: SH
  3. Remove the front exhaust pipe, automatic transmission only. Refer to Intermediate Pipe Replacement in Engine Exhaust.
  4. Disconnect the power steering pressure hose (1) from the power steering gear (3).

  5. Object Number: 490384  Size: SH
  6. Lower the vehicle.
  7. Remove the upper air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls-2.2L (L61) .
  8. Remove the power steering pressure hose (3) from the power steering pressure pipe (4).
  9. Remove the power steering pressure hose (3) from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 490384  Size: SH

    Notice: The inlet and outlet hoses must not be twisted during installation. Do not bend or distort the inlet or outlet hoses to make installation easier. Failure to follow these procedures could result in component damage.

  1. Install the power steering pressure hose (3) to the vehicle.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  3. Connect the power steering pressure hose (3) to the power steering pressure pipe (4).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the fitting to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  5. Install the upper air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls-2.2L (L61).
  6. Raise the vehicle.
  7. Install the front exhaust pipe, automatic transmission only. Refer to Intermediate Pipe Replacement in Engine Exhaust.

  8. Object Number: 639559  Size: SH
  9. Connect the power steering pressure hose (1) to the power steering gear (3).
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the fitting to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
