NEW FIBER PLATES FOR FORWARD AND DIRECT CLUTCH ASSEMBLIES

Models 1989 6000, SUNBIRD, GRAND AM AND Affected: LeMANS EQUIPPED WITH THM 125/125C

BULLETIN COVERS:

A New Grooved Fiber Plate for the Direct (618) and Forward (633) Clutch Assemblies to allow faster fluid drain off the fiber plates after the Forward and Direct clutches are released. These new fiber plates must not be used in any THM 125/125C transaxle built prior to the Julian Dates described below.

DATE OF PRODUCTION CHANGE: (Refer to Figure 1) -------------------------

July 11, 1988 (Julian Date 193) the new fiber plates went into production for all THM 125/125C Willow Run and July 14, 1988 (Julian Date 196) for all Windsor built THM 125/125C transaxles.

SERVICE ACTION: (Refer to Figure 2) -------------- The new fiber plates cannot be used on THM 125/125C transaxles built prior to July 11, 1988 (Julian Date 193) for Willow Run built models and July 14, 1988 (Julian Date 196) for Windsor built models due to specific prior year calibrations. The fiber plates can only be used on THM 125/125C transaxles built after this date.

SERVICE PARTS INFORMATION:

When ordering parts to service the Direct or Forward Clutch Assemblies use the following numbers when replacement of the fiber plates is necessary.

Refer to the THM 125/125C (MD9) Automatic Transaxle Unit Repair section of your service manual whenever service of the Direct and Forward Clutches are necessary.
