REVISED LTG FORMAT AUTO/MANUAL TRANSMISSION

Models Affected: 1990 ALL MODELS

BULLETIN COVERS:

A revised Labor Time Guide format for the 1990 model year. Advantages of this new format are as follows:

1. Each major component in all General Motors automatic and manual transmissions have been assigned its own labor operation.

2. Previous add times have been assigned new labor codes, eliminating multiple add times.

3. Some transmission labor operations are now grouped individually by model.

SERVICE PROCEDURE:

MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS/TRANSAXLES (Figure 1) ------------------------------- To use this new format, select the operation that best describes the primary cause of the transmission concern and identify by choosing the applicable labor operation.

For example, using the previous format, if the 3rd-4th synchronizer located on the output shaft of a HYDRA-MATIC 5TM40 required replacement, you would choose Transaxle Assembly - Recondition K3100, and ADD - K To Recondition Output Shaft. Using the new format, you would choose K3161 and the appropriate engine combination used.

AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS/TRANSAXLES (Figure 2) ---------------------------------- Using the previous format, if the Input Sprag required replacement, you would have chosen operation number K7535. With the new format, the user would choose Input Sprag K7537 with the appropriate body style used.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
