SUBJECT: NOISE, EXHAUST SEAL SQUEAK (INSTALL NEW EXHAUST SEAL - AND PROCEDURE)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1990-91 CHEVROLET L-CAR WITH 2.2L OR 3.1L ENGINE

Some customers of the specified Corsica/Beretta may comment about a noise (squeak) during garage take off, when turning the vehicle, start-up or shut-down of the engine, or when traveling over bumps. The noise may be coming from the exhaust seal located between the exhaust manifold and the exhaust pipe (as shown in Figures 1 and 2). To eliminate this noise condition a new exhaust seal is available through CANSPO. Refer to "Service Parts Information" in this bulletin for the proper replacement part number. The proper removal and installation procedure follows:

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
