Left Power Seat Inoperative/Grinding Noise (Replace Power Seat Motor)

Replace the power seat motor assembly.

Do NOT replace the seat track assembly.

Condition

Some customers may comment on a grinding noise when moving the driver power seat.

Cause

This cause may be due to the customer pulling on the motor assembly by mistake.

Correction

Replace the power seat motor assembly using the following procedure:

  1. Release the seat belt from the seat.
  2. Remove the two retaining bolts and move the seat back.
  3. Tilt the seat forward to release it from the floor and disconnect the electrical connector.
  4. Remove the recliner handle by pulling it off the mechanism.
  5. Remove the left side outer seat trim panel and connector from the power seat switch.

  6. Object Number: 1852720  Size: SH
  7. If the motor works but is noisy proceed to step 8. If the seat motor is inoperative, remove the two bolts that retain the track to the worm gear as see in the illustration above.
  8. Slide the track back to gain access to the four T-20 TORX screws.

  9. Object Number: 1852718  Size: SH
  10. Remove the four T-20 TORX screws at the actuators and cables.

  11. Object Number: 1849587  Size: SH
  12. Remove the lock from the wire harness connector.
  13. With a small pick or screwdriver, remove the red wire from cavity C and the black wire from cavity F. Remove the motor assembly.
  14. Install the red wire into cavity C and the black wire into cavity F and install the lock. Install the motor assembly.
  15. Install the motor assembly and tighten the four T-20 TORX screws. If the motor works but is noisy, proceed to step 13.
  16. Tighten
    Tighten the T-20 TORX Screws to 3 N·m (19 lb in).

  17. Slide both tracks back in line with the worm gear and install the two bolts.
  18. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

  19. Install the left side outer seat trim panel and switch connector.
  20. Install the recliner handle.
  21. Install the seat assembly into vehicle. Connect the electrical connector and install the seat track bolts.
  22. Tighten
    Tighten the seat bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  23. Install the seat belt.
  24. Verify proper operation of the seat.
