The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern:
Steering wheel does not lock when key is removed from the ignition, or steering wheel no longer locks after replacing ignition lock housing.
Recommendation/Instructions:
Some early built 2005 Equinox vehicles wear built with a steering column lock. A manufacturing change was implemented to eliminate the use of the steering wheel lock. When replacing the ignition lock cylinder housing on an early built vehicle, the lock feature will be eliminated. No further action should be taken. This is normal operation.
Note: The 2006 Equinox and Torrent steering columns do not lock.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
