Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to Cracked Window Caution in the Preface section.
- Remove the rear side quarter front applique.
Important: Before cutting out a quarter window,
apply a double layer of masking tape around the perimeter of the painted surfaces
and the interior trim.
- Open the liftgate.
- Remove the inside garnish molding.
Caution: Refer to Defroster Outlet Caution in the Preface section.
- Cover the following parts to protect from broken glass:
• | Defroster outlets and A/C outlets |
Caution: Refer to Glass and Sheet Metal Handling Caution in the Preface section.
Important: When cutting out the quarter window use care
not to damage the encapsulation around the perimeter of the quarter window. If the
encapsulation is damaged, the window must be replaced.
Important: Keep the cutting edge of the tool against
the quarter window. Do this from inside the vehicle to protect the outer painted surface.
- Remove the window from the urethane adhesive.
• | Leave a base of urethane approximately 2 mm (0.078 in) on
the pinch-weld flange. |
• | The only suitable lubrication is clear water. |
• | Use the
J 24402-A
,
J 39032
, or equivalent in order
to remove the quarter window. |
- With the aid of an assistant, remove the window (1) from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
Important: The molded encapsulation surrounding
the quarter window is made using PVC plastic materials. Use a specific PVC primer
application prior to applying the urethane adhesive bead to the window.
- Install the quarter window into the opening. Refer to
Adhesive Installation of Encapsulated Stationary Windows.
- Install the rear side quarter front applique.
- Install the inside garnish molding.
- Remove the double layer of masking tape around the perimeter of the painted
surfaces and the interior trim.
- Close the liftgate.
Quarter Window Replacement Non Encapsulated
Tools Required

• | Commercial-type Utility Knife |
Removal Procedure
Caution: When working with any type of glass or sheet metal with exposed or rough
edges, wear approved safety glasses and gloves in order to reduce
the chance of personal injury.
Caution: If a window is cracked but still intact, crisscross the window with
masking tape in order to reduce the risk of damage or personal injury.
Important: Before cutting out a stationary window, apply a double layer of masking tape around the perimeter of the painted surfaces and the interior trim.
- Open the liftgate.
- Install a double layer of masking tape around the perimeter of the painted surfaces and the interior trim.
Caution: If broken glass falls into the defroster outlets, it can be blown into
the passenger compartment and cause personal injury.
- Cover the following parts to protect from broken glass:

3.3. | The seats and the carpeting |
- Disconnect the electrical connector from the quarter window.
Important: Keep the cutting edge of the tool against the quarter window from inside the vehicle. This will allow the urethane adhesive to be separated from the window. The retaining clips (1) may get cut off when removing,
it will be necessary to tape the quarter window in place until the urethane adhesive is cured.
- Use
J 24402-A
,
J 39032
, or equivalent in order to remove the quarter window.
• | Leave a base of urethane on the pinchweld flange. |
• | The only suitable lubrication is clear water. |
- With the aid of an assistant, use the suction cups to remove the window (2) from the opening.
Installation Procedure
Important: The retaining clips (1) may get cut off when removing, it will be necessary to tape the quarter window in place.
- Install the quarter window (2).
- Connect the electrical connector to the quarter window.
- Ensure that the radio has reception.
- Remove the double layer of masking tape around the perimeter of the painted surfaces and the interior trim.
- Close the liftgate window.
