The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

This concern will only apply to vehicles built for the U.S prior to November 12, 2007. A customer may comment that their compass is inoperative or missing on an Equinox with the 2LT package or a Base level Torrent. The order guide indicates the vehicle is equipped with a compass in the DIC. This information was incorrect and as a result, the MSRP should have been lowered by $50.00. After November 12, 2007 all Equinox vehicles equipped with the 2LT package and all base level Torrent vehicles will be built with the compass.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Do not try to repair this concern. Customers with the affected vehicles will receive a letter from GM advising them of the concern and appropriate steps needed to be compensated for the error. Below is an example of the letter that a Chevrolet customer will be sent. The Pontiac letter will be similar to this.

Dear Customer name:

As the owner of a 2008 model year Chevrolet Equinox 2LT, your satisfaction with our product is very important to us.

Some early production 2008 model Equinox 2LTs were produced without an electronic compass in the Driver Information Center (DIC), Our records indicate that your 2008 Equinox with VIN XXXXXX is not equipped with an electronic compass.

Since the compass feature was to be included on the 2LT series, we have arranged for your dealership to compensate you for the inadvertent error. Please contact your selling dealership for a $50.00 credit and reference this letter.

Best Regards,

The Chevrolet Marketing Team

Note to dealers : General Motors has already reimbursed each dealer $50.00 per vehicle sold at their store. This was put into the dealers Open Account in October & November of 2007.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
