Driver or Passenger Seat Cushion Heater Replacement Without Passenger Presence System

Preliminary Procedure

Remove the front seat. Refer to Front Seat Replacement - Bucket.

Front Seat Recliner Handle

Tip
Pull firmly forward on the handle to remove.

Front Seat Outer Adjuster Finish Cover

Refer to Front Seat Cushion Outer Trim Panel Replacement.

Front Seat Belt Buckle

Refer to Front Seat Belt Buckle Replacement.

Front Seat Inner Adjuster Finish Panel

Refer to Front Seat Cushion Inner Trim Panel Replacement.

Front Seat Lumbar Support Actuator Knob

Tip
Remove the lumbar knob by pulling firmly on the knob.

Front Seat Cushion Cover

Refer to Front Seat Cushion Cover and Pad Replacement.

Front Seat Heater Element

Tip
Disconnect the electrical connector and gently pull on the heater element to remove the element from the seat foam. Be careful not to damage the foam pad.

Driver or Passenger Seat Cushion Heater Replacement With Passenger Presence System

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 987804  Size: SH
  1. Remove the front seat from the vehicle. Refer to Front Seat Replacement - Bucket.
  2. Place the seat on a clean work bench.
  3. Remove the seat cushion cover and pad. Refer to Front Seat Cushion Cover and Pad Replacement.
  4. Do not remove the original heater element from the seat foam, damage could occur to the inflatable restraint passenger presence system (PPS) or foam pad. If this is the second repair, separate and remove the service heater element from the original element. No more than two heater elements can be stacked on top of the PPS at one time.
  5. Cut the wiring harness off the old heater element flush to the element.

Installation Procedure

  1. Peel off the self-stick tape from the back of the heater element.
  2. Position the heater element over the seat foam pad and align the tabs and holes of the heater element to the seat foam. Press firmly to engage the adhesive.
  3. Route the heating element wiring harness under the seat pad and connect the harness to the heater module. Secure the wire with tie straps.
  4. Install the seat cushion cover and pad. Refer to Front Seat Cushion Cover and Pad Replacement.
  5. Install the front seat to the vehicle. Refer to Front Seat Replacement - Bucket.
  6. Important: Perform the passenger presence system preload test procedure when performing any repairs to the passenger seat.

  7. Preload test the inflatable restraint passenger presence system for the front passenger seat. Refer to Control Module References.
