WARPED INTERIOR TRIM -ADD STIFFENERS TO TRIM PANEL BACK

Subject: WARPED INTERIOR TRIM (ADD STIFFENERS TO BACK OF TRIM PANELS)

Models Affected: 1990 PONTIAC TRANS SPORT MODELS

CONDITION: Interior side wall and sliding door trim panels warped and/or buckled at belt line.

CAUSE: Exposure to sun and heat build up.

CORRECTION: Add stiffeners kit, P/N 10187500 to back side of trim panels as described and illustrated.

Parts are currently available from GMSPO.

1. Remove upper trim panels and place on clean work surface, backside up.

IMPORTANT: Sliding door trim panels may have vertical as well as horizontal ribs on back side of substrate. In these cases it will be necessary to slot vertical ribs to fit stiffener to horizontal rib. See Illustration.

2. Using a heat gun held approximately 6 inches from trim panel heat back.

3. Install stiffener kit, P/N 10187500 on substrate horizontal rib. Be sure stiffener is completely seated on rib. See Illustration.

4. Using a pair of locking type pliers (vice grips or equivalent) set at 1 mm when locked, crimp the stiffener at three inch intervals and at both ends. See Illustration.
