SLIDING SIDE DOOR GLASS POPS OPEN WHEN CLOSING SIDE DOOR

SLIDING SIDE DOOR GLASS POPS OPEN Subject: WHEN CLOSING SIDE DOOR (INSPECT BUMPER-REMOVE/INSTALL NEW BUMPER AND SHIM)

Models Affected: 1990 TRANS SPORT

Condition:

Sliding Side Door Glass Pops Open When Closing Side Door

Cause:

Not Enough Tension On Glass Latch In Closed Position

Correction:

1. Open window to check style of bumper on rear pillar of sliding side door (See Illustration) if bumper is round in shape remove, clean surface and install new square type bumper, P/N 10188522. Close window.

2. Close door several times to insure repair.

3. If condition still exists loosen garnish molding on door to access the latch mounting to determine if there's a 3mm shim located under the base of the latch, if not proceed to step 4.

4. Loosen the latch attaching screws.

5. Install 3mm tapered shim, P/N 10171186 between the latch and door surface to increase latch tension.

IMPORTANT: An additional 1.5mm shim, P/N 10171188 may be used if additional latch tension is needed.

6. Tighten inboard screws then outboard screws.

7. Reinstall garnish molding.
