INTERIOR LIGHTS MAY FLICKER (SLIDING DOOR JAMB SWITCH)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1990 U-VANS

Condition:

The interior lights may flicker when hitting bumps and then gradually stay on all the time, with all the doors closed, on the 1990 U Van. If the sliding door jamb switch is adjusted, the lights may work properly for a short period of time, but the condition will re-occur after the sliding door has been closed several times.

Cause:

The sliding door jamb switch cannot hold proper adjustment when the sliding door is closed. The internal mechanism of the switch is not strong enough.

A new stronger switch, part number #10170226, has been released, which will hold the correct adjustment when the door is closed.

This new switch is used in Production after the following VIN'S:

Chevrolet - LT112875 Pontiac - LT204582 Oldsmobile - LT302424

Correction:

1. Disconnect negative battery cable.

2. Replace the sliding door jamb switch with the new part, following normal service manual procedures (Section 10-11).

3. Reconnect negative battery cable.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
