REAR COIL SPRING CLICKING (ORIENT SPRINGS TO NEW SPEC.)

Subject: REAR COIL SPRING CLICK/CLUNK NOISE (SERVICE MANUAL UPDATE - ORIENT SPRINGS TO NEW SPECIFICATION)

Models Affected: 1992 TRANS SPORT MODELS

Condition:

----------- Some 1992 Trans Sport models assembled prior to VIN breakpoint NT200360 may exhibit a metallic click/clunk noise audible in the passenger compartment, coming from the rear of the vehicle.

Cause:

------ Rear coil spring contacts axle spring seat due to incorrect spring orientation.

Correction:

------------ Following applicable procedure in Service Manual, Section 3D orient rear springs as shown in attached Illustration insuring insulators are also properly positioned under spring.

This orientation supersedes that which is shown in the 1992 Service Manual, Section 3D. Please note your copies of the Service Manual accordingly.

Labor Operation Number: E5027 Labor Time: 1.1 Hours

Refer to figure 1: NOTE: 1) End of spring with I.D. tag to be positioned upward towards vehicle underbody. 2) Rear coil spring lower pigtail to be orientated pointing rearward within tolerance shown in View "A". Both sides should be identical.
