SOME CUSTOMERS MAY COMMENT THAT THEIR LIFT GATE KEY CYLINDER WON'T RETURN TO NORMAL POSITION OR THERE IS EXCESSIVE MOVEMENT OF THE CYLINDER WITHOUT KEY INSTALLED.
OVER TORQUING THE KEY CYLINDER MAY STRIP OUT THE SMC (SHEET MOLDED COMPOUND) THAT RETAINS THE KEY CYLINDER IN THE LIFT GATE.
1. REMOVE LIFT GATE TRIM AND WATER DEFLECTOR.
2. REMOVE REAR HIGH MOUNT STOP LAMP AS A PRECAUTION FOR FOLLOWING STEP THAT REQUIRES DRILLING.
3. REMOVE THE BELL CRANK BRACKET TO GAIN ACCESS TO THE KEY CYLINDER.
4. FOR POWER LIFT GATES, MAKE SURE THE POWER DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR IS FULLY SEATED ON THE KEY CYLINDER. PROCEED TO STEP 6.
5A. FOR MANUAL REAR LIFT GATES WITH A POWER DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR ATTACHED TO THE KEY CYLINDER, FULLY SEAT THE ACTUATOR TO THE KEY CYLINDER AND PROCEED TO STEP 6.
5B. FOR MANUAL REAR LIFT GATES WITHOUT POWER DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR ATTACHED TO THE LOCK CYLINDER, REMOVE AND DISCARD LOCK CYLINDER RETAINING CLIP. BEFORE YOU INSTALL THE POWER DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR, P/N 10242895, REMOVE THE BLACK ELECTRICAL PORTION OF THE ACTUATOR BY BENDING THE RETAINING TABS. (SEE FIGURE 1, ITEM 4.) DISCARD ACTUATOR MOTOR (SEE FIGURE 1, ITEM 3). WITH THE KEY CYLINDER IN POSITION, INSTALL THE ACTUATOR BRACKET TO THE KEY CYLINDER. (SEE FIGURE 1, ITEM 5.)
6. INSTALL THE REINFORCEMENT, P/N 10268275, BEHIND ACTUATOR. (SEE FIGURE 1, ITEM 1.)
7. USING THE HOLE IN THE REINFORCEMENT BRACKET AS A TEMPLATE, DRILL A 3/16" (5MM) INCH HOLE THROUGH THE INNER PANEL. RIVET THE REINFORCEMENT TO THE INNER PANEL USING P/N 10125439. (SEE FIGURE 1, ITEM 2.)
8. REINSTALL BELL CRANK.
9. CHECK OPERATION OF LOCK FOR PROPER OPERATION.
10. REINSTALL HIGH MOUNT STOP LAMP, WATER DEFLECTOR, TRIM PANEL AND ASSIST STRAP.
