Removal Procedure

Tools Required

  1. J 29130 Right Side Axle Seal Installer
  2. J 34115 Left side Axle Seal Installer
  3. J 37292-B Axle Seal Protector
  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to General Vehicle Lifting and Jacking in General Information.
  2. Remove the front tire and the wheel(s). Refer to Wheel Removal in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Remove the inner fender splash shield(s). Refer to Fender in Body Front End.
  4. Remove the stabilizer brackets from the lower control arms. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft and Insulation in Front Suspension.
  5. Remove the tie rod end(s) from the steering knuckle(s). Refer to Tie Rod in Power Steering Gear .
  6. Lower the ball joint(s) from the steering knuckle(s). Refer to Ball Joint in Front Suspension.
  7. Remove the drive axle(s) from the transaxle. Refer to Drive Axle in Drive Axle.
  8. Remove the secure drive axle(s) to the steering knuckle/strut(s).

  9. Object Number: 98929  Size: SH
  10. Remove the right seal with a screwdriver or the appropriate tool.

  11. Object Number: 97533  Size: SH
  12. Remove the left seal with a screwdriver or the appropriate tool.
  13. Do not damage the seal bore.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 98929  Size: SH
  1. Install the new right seal using the J 34115 or the J 29130 Lubricate the seal lip with a light wipe of the transaxle fluid.

  2. Object Number: 97533  Size: SH
  3. Install the new left seal using the J 34115 or the J 29130 . Lubricate the seal lip with a light wipe of the transaxle fluid.
  4. Install the J 37292-B in the seal(s).
  5. Important: Carefully guide the axle shaft past the lip seal. Do not allow the shaft splines to contact any portion of the seal lip surface, otherwise damage to the seal will occur.

  6. Install the drive axle(s) to the transaxle. Refer to the Drive Axle in Drive Axle.
  7. Remove the J 37292-B .
  8. Install the lower ball joint(s) to the steering knuckle(s). Refer to Ball Joint in Front Suspension.
  9. Install the tie rod end(s) to the steering knuckle(s). Refer to Tie Rod in Power Steering Pump.
  10. Install the stabilizer shaft brackets to the lower controls arms. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft And Insulation in Front Suspension.
  11. Install the inner fender splash shield(s). Refer to Fender in Body Front End.
  12. Install the front tire and the wheel(s). Refer to Wheel Removal in Tires and Wheels.
  13. Lower the vehicle.
  14. Adjust the fluid level.
  15. Inspection
    Inspect the vehicle for the following conditions:

    • Proper completion of repairs
    • Proper fluid level. Refer to Transmission Fluid Check .
    • Fluid leaks. Refer to Fluid Leak Diagnosis and Repair .
