    Notice: All camshaft journals are the same diameter, so care must be used in removing or installing the camshaft to avoid damage to the camshaft bearings.

  1. Coat the camshaft journals with engine oil or its equivalent.
  2. Coat the camshaft lobes with prelube. Use GM P/N 1052365.
  3. Install the camshaft. Use the following procedure:
  4. 3.1. Install a large screwdriver into the camshaft bolt hole in order to support the camshaft.
    3.2. Rotate the camshaft. Install camshaft into the camshaft bearings.

  5. Install the camshaft thrust plate.
  6. Install the camshaft thrust plate bolts.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  8. Install the oil pump driven gear assembly.
  9. • Lubricate the driven gear with prelube GM P/N 1052365.
    • Lubricate the assembly with engine oil for ease of installation.
  10. Install the oil pump driven gear hold down clamp and bolt.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 36 N·m (27 lb ft).
