SOME OWNERS MAY COMMENT ON ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS:
1. BRAKE PEDAL DOES NOT FULLY RETURN. 2. CRUISE CONTROL DOES NOT ENGAGE. 3. BRAKES DRAG OR GET HOT. 4. BRAKES SEEM TO SELF-APPLY AS VEHICLE IS DRIVEN. 5. EARLY LINING WEAR OUT.
THE ABOVE CONDITIONS MAY BE CAUSED BY ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:
1. MISADJUSTED BRAKE AND/OR CRUISE CONTROL SWITCHES.
2. RESTRICTED BRAKE PEDAL ASSEMBLY. VEHICLES BUILT AFTER JANUARY 1, 1997 SHOULD NOT HAVE THIS CONDITION.
1. CHECK/ADJUST BRAKE AND CRUISE CONTROL SWITCHES. PULL UP FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. IF CLICKS ARE HEARD FROM THE SWITCHES SLIDING IN THE RETAINERS, THE BRAKE SWITCHES WERE PROBABLY OUT OF ADJUSTMENT.
AFTER MAKING THIS ADJUSTMENT, ALWAYS CHECK TO MAKE SURE THE SWITCHES ARE STILL HELD SECURELY IN THE RETAINERS. ALSO, CHECK FOR PROPER OPERATION OF THE CHMSL (CENTER HIGH MOUNTED STOP LAMP) AND THE BTSI (BRAKE TRANSMISSION SHIFT INTERLOCK.)
2. CHECK THE BRAKE PEDAL FOR FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT. DISCONNECT THE PUSH ROD FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL. LIFT THE PEDAL TO ITS FULL UP POSITION AND RELEASE IT. THE PEDAL MUST SWING FREELY. IF NOT, REPLACE THE BRAKE PEDAL ASSEMBLY, P/N 10249114.
1. DO NOT ADD A RETURN SPRING TO CORRECT A PEDAL RETURN CONCERN. 2. DO NOT SHIM THE BOOSTER OR MASTER CYLINDER FOR ANY REASON.
3. IF THE BRAKES HAVE BEEN DRAGGING, CHECK RELATED BRAKE PARTS FOR HEAT DAMAGE. CHECK SEALS ON CALIPERS, WHEEL CYLINDERS AND BEARINGS. ALSO CHECK BRAKE LININGS AND SHOES FOR CRACKS AND/OR CRUMBLING ON THE SURFACE. DISCOLORATION OF THE ROTORS AND/OR DRUMS DOES NOT DAMAGE THEM. CHECK THE BRAKING SURFACES FOR CRACKS.
PARTS ARE CURRENTLY AVAILABLE FROM GMSPO.
